Be Prepared.

For those of you who take part in your church services, you will be familiar with the need for preparation. As a public speaker I have been trained the 3 ‘P’s’ of public speaking, prepare, prepare, prepare.
Last week it was my turn on the rota for reading the Gospel in the service. So I read it through, read it out loud at home. Read it out loud at home 3 times on the Sunday before I went to church, making sure that I was familiar with names and places in the text. The time arrived and everything went well. After the service the minister thanked me for doing the reading but added the final comment, that it was next weeks reading.
I had looked at the wrong line on the rota and read next weeks verses.
Let’s see if the congregation notice when it is read again this week.

Oops!!!

As always though there is a verse in the bible for each situation.

“Father forgive ‘me’ for they know not what they do.”

It is a good job that God’s planning is better than mine.

On the mend

I have been unavailable a long time it seems. I may not have been talking to you on this website but I have continued to talk to the Lord.
I have been conscious of your prayers, so thank you.
I am feeling better and hopefully will be able to speak to you more often now.
I would like to thank God for all His goodness, strength, healing and power that He has given to me over the past months.
May God continue to Bless us all

Wisdom

 1 A good name is better than fine perfume,

       and the day of death better than the day of birth.

 2 It is better to go to a house of mourning

       than to go to a house of feasting,

       for death is the destiny of every man;

       the living should take this to heart.

 3 Sorrow is better than laughter,

       because a sad face is good for the heart.

 4 The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning,

       but the heart of fools is in the house of pleasure.

 5 It is better to heed a wise man’s rebuke

       than to listen to the song of fools.

 6 Like the crackling of thorns under the pot,

       so is the laughter of fools.

       This too is meaningless.

 7 Extortion turns a wise man into a fool,

       and a bribe corrupts the heart.

 8 The end of a matter is better than its beginning,

       and patience is better than pride.

 9 Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit,

       for anger resides in the lap of fools.

 10 Do not say, “Why were the old days better than these?”

       For it is not wise to ask such questions.

 11 Wisdom, like an inheritance, is a good thing

       and benefits those who see the sun.

 12 Wisdom is a shelter

       as money is a shelter,

       but the advantage of knowledge is this:

       that wisdom preserves the life of its possessor.

 13 Consider what God has done:

       Who can straighten

       what he has made crooked?

 14 When times are good, be happy;

       but when times are bad, consider:

       God has made the one

       as well as the other.

       Therefore, a man cannot discover

       anything about his future.

 15 In this meaningless life of mine I have seen both of these:

       a righteous man perishing in his righteousness,

       and a wicked man living long in his wickedness.

 16 Do not be overrighteous,

       neither be overwise—

       why destroy yourself?

 17 Do not be overwicked,

       and do not be a fool—

       why die before your time?

 18 It is good to grasp the one

       and not let go of the other.

       The man who fears God will avoid all extremes . [a]

 19 Wisdom makes one wise man more powerful

       than ten rulers in a city.

 20 There is not a righteous man on earth

       who does what is right and never sins.

 21 Do not pay attention to every word people say,

       or you may hear your servant cursing you-

 22 for you know in your heart

       that many times you yourself have cursed others.

 23 All this I tested by wisdom and I said,

       “I am determined to be wise”—

       but this was beyond me.

 24 Whatever wisdom may be,

       it is far off and most profound—

       who can discover it?

 25 So I turned my mind to understand,

       to investigate and to search out wisdom and the scheme of things

       and to understand the stupidity of wickedness

       and the madness of folly.

 26 I find more bitter than death

       the woman who is a snare,

       whose heart is a trap

       and whose hands are chains.

       The man who pleases God will escape her,

       but the sinner she will ensnare.

 27 “Look,” says the Teacher, [b] “this is what I have discovered:

       “Adding one thing to another to discover the scheme of things-

 28 while I was still searching

       but not finding—

       I found one upright man among a thousand,

       but not one upright woman among them all.

 29 This only have I found:

       God made mankind upright,

       but men have gone in search of many schemes.”

A Time for Everything

 1 There is a time for everything,

       and a season for every activity under heaven:

 2 a time to be born and a time to die,

       a time to plant and a time to uproot,

 3 a time to kill and a time to heal,

       a time to tear down and a time to build,

 4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,

       a time to mourn and a time to dance,

 5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,

       a time to embrace and a time to refrain,

 6 a time to search and a time to give up,

       a time to keep and a time to throw away,

 7 a time to tear and a time to mend,

       a time to be silent and a time to speak,

 8 a time to love and a time to hate,

       a time for war and a time for peace.

Warning Against Rejecting Wisdom

 20 Wisdom calls aloud in the street,

       she raises her voice in the public squares;

 21 at the head of the noisy streets [c] she cries out,

       in the gateways of the city she makes her speech:

 22 “How long will you simple ones [d] love your simple ways?

       How long will mockers delight in mockery

       and fools hate knowledge?

 23 If you had responded to my rebuke,

       I would have poured out my heart to you

       and made my thoughts known to you.

 24 But since you rejected me when I called

       and no one gave heed when I stretched out my hand,

 25 since you ignored all my advice

       and would not accept my rebuke,

 26 I in turn will laugh at your disaster;

       I will mock when calamity overtakes you-

 27 when calamity overtakes you like a storm,

       when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind,

       when distress and trouble overwhelm you.

 28 “Then they will call to me but I will not answer;

       they will look for me but will not find me.

 29 Since they hated knowledge

       and did not choose to fear the LORD,

 30 since they would not accept my advice

       and spurned my rebuke,

 31 they will eat the fruit of their ways

       and be filled with the fruit of their schemes.

 32 For the waywardness of the simple will kill them,

       and the complacency of fools will destroy them;

 33 but whoever listens to me will live in safety

       and be at ease, without fear of harm.”

Warning Against Enticement

 8 Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction

       and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.

 9 They will be a garland to grace your head

       and a chain to adorn your neck.

 10 My son, if sinners entice you,

       do not give in to them.

 11 If they say, “Come along with us;

       let’s lie in wait for someone’s blood,

       let’s waylay some harmless soul;

 12 let’s swallow them alive, like the grave, [b]

       and whole, like those who go down to the pit;

 13 we will get all sorts of valuable things

       and fill our houses with plunder;

 14 throw in your lot with us,

       and we will share a common purse”-

 15 my son, do not go along with them,

       do not set foot on their paths;

 16 for their feet rush into sin,

       they are swift to shed blood.

 17 How useless to spread a net

       in full view of all the birds!

 18 These men lie in wait for their own blood;

       they waylay only themselves!

 19 Such is the end of all who go after ill-gotten gain;

       it takes away the lives of those who get it.
