Is Christ still relevant today?
“This is a true saying, to be completely accepted and believed: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. I am the worst of them,”
1 Timothy 1:15 GNB
When you look at today’s world do you ever think that Christ may not be relevant? He may not be right for this modern fast paced world where technology, science, leisure, have all pushed the need for Christian values to the dark corners or fringes of our society. Hardly anyone today believes in that stuff. Nobody goes to church anymore.I am glad to say that this cannot be farther from the truth. Today’s world is exactly the place for Jesus Christ.
WHY?
In today’s world there is a great need for someone to believe in. There is a need to be and feel accepted for who we are not who other people want us to be. There is a need for people to feel safe, to have something or someone solid and secure in their lives. A need to be accepted for what we are and what we want to be. To be accepted not penalized for our past. Not to have that brought up against us again and again.
There is only one person who can fill these great needs and more besides.
WHO?
That is Jesus Christ.
He is the one who accepts us unconditionally. He asks nothing from us except that we love Him as He loves us. He will forgive us of the past wrongs, or as the bible puts it, sins, that we have committed. He will take away all the guilt, the fear, the insecurity, the doubt, and the shame that has been holding you back.
This world and its situations are not new to God. He created this world, but man continues to mess it up. He has punished the people of the world before.
Remember the flood?
He has destroyed cities because of their inability to see that they needed God. They pursued their own ways of immorality, sexual desires, theft, and drugs.
Remember Sodom and Gomorrah?
The world was in such a state 2000 years ago that God decided that the people would listen if He sent His Son to earth. They rejected Him then and killed Him. Could He have stopped the death of Jesus? Yes. Did He? No.
He wanted to show that He loved us so much that He was willing to sacrifice His most precious possession for you and me.
If you are a person with many possessions would you give them all away to save another person?
That is exactly what God did for you and me.
“Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”
The world needs Jesus now more than ever. He is relevant today as He was in the past. He will keep His promise to return and judge the world. Will the world be ready for Him? If history repeats itself, as it does, the answer will be no. There will only be a relatively few people who truly believe. I pray that you are one of those. If not accept Jesus as your person Saviour. Ask Him to forgiver the past and prepare you for the future.
WHEN?
Now is the time. Don’t put it off for another moment. Ask Jesus to be part of your life, to change you from what you have been to what you can become with His help and the power of the Holy Spirit.
